Kid’s Talk Radio has two student reporters in Denver at the Democratic National Convention. They sent a direct feed of Hillary Clinton’s speech to Bob Barboza at Kid’s Talk Radio headquarters in Long Beach, California.

She has declared in her speech to the Democratic convention that Obama is her candidate.
Her daughter Chelsea introduced Hillary Clinton, one of the Clinton team's great campaign assets, Senator Hillary Clinton was greeted by fantastic applause and cheering from the crowd, we saw thousands of white 'Hillary' placards.

Clinton’s speech did a good job of building team unity.

Here is what see said that caught our attention:

"I am here tonight as a proud mother, as a proud Democrat," she said to yet another roar of support from the floor, "as a proud Senator from New York, a proud American and a proud supporter of Barack Obama."

"My friends, it is time to take back the country we love. And whether you voted for me or you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose," she said.

"And none of us can afford to sit on the sidelines; this is a fight for the future and it's a fight we must win together," she said.

"I haven't spent the past 35 years in the trenches advocating for children, campaigning for universal health care, helping parents balance work and family and fighting for women's rights here at home and around the world to see another Republican in the White House squander our promise of a country that really fulfils the hopes of our people.

"And you haven't worked so hard over the last 18 months or enduring the last eight years to suffer through more failed leadership," she added.

'No way, No how'

Then, we heard something that we thought was way to cool as Hillary Clinton created a new slogan: "No way, no how, no McCain".

You can hear a lot of key points in our auditory recording of this historic speech. We will continue to send our news from the convention floor to Long Beach and Kid’s Talk Radio and Teen TV will send our news across the country.

In a spirit of fair play we will cover the democrats, republicans, and independents.

We would love to interview Ralph Nader or anyone from his team. Our goal is to make sure that we get some answers to questions that kids need answers to.

A great time to visit the Olympics is after the Olympics.

My plane flight was $6,000 round trip. My hotel is $375.00 per night. The tickets to the games range from $50.00 to $800.00. The plane ride is very long. I hope you are good at sleeping in the plane. All I can say is to bring a good book and an iPod loaded with great music.

Once you arrive in Beijing you will see an airport that you won’t believe. It could possible be one of the best airports in the world. I am going to go out on a limb; it is the greatest airport in the world.

The good news is that lots of signs are in English and lots of people speak English. You will bump into many people who speak English.

The food is great. Prices are not too bad, in most places and you don’t have to worry about places closing too early.

Two weeks is a long time to spend at the Olympics. However, the time flies when you are having a great time.

We bumped into a group of school teachers from the United States and England and all decided to visit some school in China.

Bob Barboza is searching for ten student journalists. He is getting reading to expand the Kid's Talk Radio Channel. The new channel will be visual radio. It is radio show with photos and video. Ambassador Veiga's Visits Kid's Talk Radio in

Long Beach, California

On May 23, 2008, Cape Verde's Ambassador Lima Da Veiga was invited to a special press conference that included Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga, and Counsilwoman Rae Gabelich. The room was filled with other district representatives, business leaders and members of the Long Beach Community.

Students from Long Beach Wilson High School, Long Beach Poly High School, Los Angeles Animo Locke Tech Charter High School, La Puente High School, and the Los Angeles Cabo Verde Youth Newsteam were on hand to participate in the live press conference.

Lauren Elliott CEO/Founder of PNN presented information about PNN The Personal News Network. He talked about Kid's Talk Radio and how it is publishing on PNN. In addition, he provided information about how PNN could help the people of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Bob Barboza CEO/ Founder of Kid's Talk Radio presented information about Kid's Talk Radio and how it could benefit the Cabo Verde Island.

Ambassador Veiga's Press Conference

On May 23, 2008, Cape Verde's Ambassador Lima Da Veiga arrived in the U.S. for the Memorial Day weekend. And what place better than the sands of Long Beach, California, where she was warmly welcomed by the city's mayor: Bob Foster, along with many counsel members. The conference room was full with counsel members, photographers, and reporters ready to hear what the ambassador would say.

Ambassador Veiga was a very charming woman, ready to listen and answer what young Kid's Talk Radio reporters had to ask. Ambassador Veiga explained all from economy to the tourism in the Cape Verde islands. Beforehand, many people wondered, where exactly is Cape Verde? Is Cape Verde some type of gang in Los Angeles? Founder and CEO of Kid's Talk Radio Bob Barboza's favorite question of all was "Why does every person need a Cape Verdean?" for the reason that he knew the answer to that. As a fellow Cape Verdean, Barboza led the conference room with a walk through on Kid's Talk Radio and presented an introduction to Ambassador Veiga on the Cape Verdeans in the U.S.

Ambassador Veiga presented the audience with a power point presentation, showing the public what the Cape Verde islands had to offer and what it could do for the U.S. The ambassador presented some really interesting facts such as that Cape Verde achieved their independence on July 5^th, 1975. Ambassador Veiga also presented the current issues with her country like how Cape Verde is in dire need of resources; especially water, considering that rainfall in Cape Verde is very scarce. Cape Verde is in necessitate of help and support from the U.S. and we need to answer the call for help.

In conclusion, Ambassador Veiga was able to answer each question that curious reporters asked. The ambassador even had the chance to meet fellow Cape Verdeans who felt strongly about the struggle in their country. In the end, it is sure that every person there accomplished making a good impression to the ambassador to have her return to the sandy coasts of Long Beach, California.

Skateboard News

Meet Paul Schmitt the Godfather of the modern-day skateboard deck manufacturing.

Southern California has a lot of gems and Paul Schmitt is one of them. Paul has a personality that is on fire and a product for schools that is worth taking a second look at. Students lean and create their own skateboards in class.

Our Kid's Talk Radio reporter Bob Barboza spent some time with Paul Schmitt to learn how his organization Create A Skate was reaching out to schools. We are planning a more in dept interview this summer during the height of the skateboard season.

Our student reporters will be on the scene to bring you all the news that you can use. With over 12 million skateboards in the United States this proves to be a hot top among kids.

Students seeking participation in this innovative program need to coordinate their interest with fellow classmates, and with their class instructor. In most school situations there has been great interest and enthusiasm from students for the Create A Skate program. However, that initial interest has rarely been unanimous. Most students, often times a majority, have been initially interested in the project. The challenge is for those enthusiastic students to suggest, cajole, and convince those students not yet enthused, that making a skateboard could be a good (great, amazing) experience. Whether a skateboarder, or not, creating your own personalized skateboard deck can be an incredible experience for every CreateAskate.org participant. Unanimous participation is an important criterion for teachers and administrators.

This would be a wonderful program to add to our Super Sub project that is touring the schools. We are constantly looking for programs that will help to get kids excited about learning. The Super Subs will integrate writing into their entire day when they are performing at schools. We feel that we can help to give students good reasons to write. So when the Super Subs come to town you will be treated to visual and performing arts, storytelling, Kid's Talk Radio, PNN News projects, and lots of opportunities to write.

Here are some recent articles that we are paying close attention to.

SAT writing portion good predictor of college grades, studies find.

USA Today (4/25, 3A, Kornblum, Toppo) reports, "The controversial new writing portion of the SAT is actually a better predictor of grades for freshmen college students than the older, more-established, critical reading and mathematics portions, according to preliminary results of two new studies" from the College Board and the University of California. The College Board study looked at "test scores from 150,000 freshmen entering 110 colleges in 2006 and then looked at their GPAs at the end of their freshman year," and the study found the SAT's writing section to be "'the best single predictor' of freshman grades." In an analysis of its 2006 freshman class, the University of California found that, "[w]hile the best predictor of grades is a student's high school GPA, the writing portion of the SAT is the most important among tests required by the UC system." Analysts note that, [a]necdotally, colleges are using the writing portion as a monitored writing sample."

Students using informal writing styles, study finds.

The New York Times (4/25, A16, Lewin) reports, "As email messages, text messages and social network postings become nearly ubiquitous in the lives of teenagers, the informality of electronic communications is seeping into their schoolwork," found a survey of 700 students by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The study found that "nearly two-thirds" of the "students surveyed said their e-communication style sometimes bled into school assignments." Richard Sterling, emeritus executive director of the National Writing Project, said that "when email shorthand -- or for that matter, slang -- appears in academic assignments...it is an opportunity for teachers to explain that while such usages are acceptable in some contexts, they do not belong in schoolwork." He also said, "I think in the future, capitalization will disappear."

The AP (4/25) reports the study "also found that teens who keep blogs or use social-networking sites...have a greater tendency to slip nonstandard elements into assignments," but noted that "teens who keep blogs are more likely to engage in personal writing," and "tend to believe that writing will prove crucial to their eventual success in life."

Otis College of Art and Design

Kid's Talk Radio was treated to a tour of Otis College of Art and Design. We were the special guest of Pete Galindo, Director, and OTEAM. The college is located right next to the Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, California. In addition, we met with Edward Schoenberg, Vice President of Enrollment Management.

Otis is a forward-looking art and design college with a real-word orientation. It was a great pleasure to be in the presence of so many great artists and designers.

We have provided a photo essay to help you to visualize this college that was founded in 1918, Otis is Los Angeles' first professional school of visual arts.

The Kid's Talk Radio Team is exploring ways that we might collaborate with Otis. We bring the audio arts to the table. Our action research in old time radio, sound effects, jazz, and contemporary music should make for an interesting collaboration.

Study: Jazz Improvisation Cranks up Brain's Creativity

Don' take our word for it, look at the research coming out of Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Charles Limb a jazz sax player and hearing specialist along with his research partner Allen Brown found some interesting results. They used a functional MRI scanner and six jazz piano players for their test. You can hear the full story on NPR National Public Radio.

Desert Hot Springs High School

Desert Hot Springs High School is a school with under a decade of being in existence. Today you experienced a combination of two of the three choirs located on campus. You experienced the concert choir (a relatively larger group of singers) and the madrigal singers (a smaller group of 18 singers). The other group that didn't come was the chorale( the beginning choir). Both groups combined and learned songs to preform at the palm springs convention center. Michael Bukraba the director of has been a great inspiration to his students and provides us with not only singing, but the fundamentals of music theory. All in all the choir is combined by the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class.

Palm Spring CUE Conference 2008

We interviewed lots of kids and we created a special page to store their photos from Palm Springs, California. The 2008 ICE Conference

We you look at this photo you see a guy in 20 degree weather with a smile on his face. How is this possible? I am from Southern California. He has a short sleeve shirt on. I think I know why they call this the ICE Conference. All in all, the food was great, the people were great. You might want to take the four hour plane ride from California and attended this conference next year.

Illinois Technology Conference for Educators 2008

Kid's Talk Radio is on the spot in Illinois covering the Illinois Technology Conference for Educators. The conference theme is "Learning Without Boundaries". The conference was held at the beautiful Pheasant Run Resort & Convention Center in St. Charles, Illinois. You can learn more about this wonderful conference at www.iceberg.org. It was 20 degrees out when I arrived at the front door of my hotel. Snow was on the ground and it was tough on all of the educators from California. I was treated like a king and we will return the favor when this educators visit California. Nick Peronti is a member of the technology committee and he was kind enough to take my picture in the snow. I got a chance to meet Brian Engle the ICE 2008 Conference Chair. There was a lot of buz about Web 2.0 technology and Joe Brennan gave a wonderful presentation on Final Cut Express. It was great having an opportunity to learn from some of the best minds in educational technology. I take may hat off to the ICE executive board membes, conference committee, corporate partnerships, exhibitors committee, facilities committee, program committee, publicity committee, Allison Larson, technology committee, and the great volunteer committee. You can count on Kid's Talk Radio showing up again next. You all know how to host a class conference.
