You can stop pretending, people only want to see gold. This bold statement will cause mixed emotions for sure.
What do you do with a gold medal? What is it worth in terms of money? Why do people work so hard for a gold medal or any color medial?
There were some great stories that came out of the Olympics. One of my favorites is about the young lady on the Chinese Synchronized Swimming team who ask for a weekend off. Here coach was not very happy. In fact, her coach was very upset. The young swimmer had to come up with a good reason for taking the time off. What do you think a good reason could be? After all we are talking about the Olympics and trying very hard for the ultimate goal. That goal is earning a gold medal and only gold. The young swimmer told her coach that she had not seen her family in fourteen years and she just wanted to take one weekend off. Well, that was not excuse. The Chinese did not get the gold medal in synchronized swimming. The gold medal went to the Russians.
I did not get to go to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics. The teams are only allowed to take 12 players and my daughter was number 13. But to us she is number 1.
It you want to make the Olympics in 2012. You hit the gym today and don’t ask for any weekends off for the next four years. They only hand out gold medals to the best in the world.
