Bob Barboza and a new team of Cape Verdean student reporters traveled to the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles to see a special edition of Dr. Andrade-Watkins new movie. Why were people crying? "Some Kind of Funny Porto Rican?" is carry a heavy message. It is a Cape Verdean American Story that applies to everyone in America. It is a story about what happens when you trust others to take care of things for you. This sotry is about the destruction of a vibrant community of immigrants from the Cape Verde Islands in the Fox Point section of Providence, Rhode Island. Three generations of Cape Verdeans were forcibly displaced by urban renewal in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for the fancy coffee shops, antique stores and elegantly restored houses that now fill the streets of Fox Point. The tragedy and scandal of a legancy lost in told through the voices of the Cape Verdean elders. It spans the sea of memory and time of a community set adrift.
